The Power of Perception: Do you want something you can't have?
People, by nature, want what they cannot have.
It seems to be a fact of life - the more it costs, the more valuable people think it is. The more unattainable it seems, the more it is desired. This can apply to just about anything, whether it is an expensive car, that elusive guy or girl you've had your eye on, or reaching your ultimate dream (see this issue). The elusive is desirable.
The more I respond to inquiries from people interested in investing in brass|MEDIA Inc., telling them we're not looking for funding, the more they want in. As I begin to restrict my speaking schedule, the more groups are willing to pay to have me speak. For whatever reason, people want what they cannot have.
Take The Professor, this issue's cover story: the classic story of doing the impossible. No one expected him to make it to where he is today. He was told time and again it wouldn't be possible, which just fueled the fire. He wanted what seemed impossible, and he got it. His determination and hard work are paying off big for him. But like many people who push for what seems impossible, now he's on to the next challenge.
Maybe there is truth to the unattainable being worth more, but if you don't try for it, you'll never know. The moral of the story for me is don't give up for too little or settle for less. If you set your goals high enough, keep pushing for them, and don't compromise - it will pay off.
Oh, and if you're interested in a great investment opportunity, let me know and maybe we'll consider putting you on the list...
Told you it worked.
