Ten things you need to do your Senior year before Senioritis takes over.

Fall
1. Exams. Start studying and sign up for the SAT and ACT tests to get the college ball a rollin’. Visit collegeboard.com (SAT) and actstudent.org (ACT) to sign up for tests and use their study aids.

2. Applications. Figure out which schools you are interested in applying to, get the admission forms, write the essays and send preliminary transcripts. Visit each school’s website for application details.
3. Visit campuses. It’s a good way to gauge if the school is a good fit. Before you go, find out more about campuses across the country at unigo.com and collegeclicktv.com.

Winter

4. Fill out the FAFSA. Do this as soon after January 1st as possible. Some federal financial aid is first-come, first-serve, so the sooner you apply, the better chance you have of getting some. Go to fafsa.ed.gov.
5. Scholarship central. There are literally millions of scholarships available to students each academic year. Check with your high school counselor and search fastweb.com for scholarship opportunities.

Spring

6. Senior pictures. Remember, this photo will be immortalized in your (and everyone else’s) yearbook forever. Have fun, look good and avoid “glamour shots.”
7. Send out invites. Don’t be shy when sending out graduation announcements. Also, be careful not to squander any graduation gift money you might receive; you’ll need all the money you can save.

Summer

8. Get your transcripts. You’re close, but not quite done yet. Make sure to have your high school send final transcripts to the school you’re attending in the fall.
9. Get your finances in order. Even with financial aid and scholarships, paying for school can get stressful. Create a budget and start applying for jobs.
10. Orientation. Attend your school’s summer orientation programs so you can start getting settled in. Sign up for classes, choose your housing, start meeting new people and learn the ropes on campus.
