As you read this, I'll be sitting in the nook of a British flat overlooking the River Thames in London. It's sad to say my internship at brass has come to an end. But don't be too sad for me because instead of working diligently at brass I will be studying Spanish in Oviedo, Spain during the month of August. Not only do I get the chance to immerse myself in a different culture for a whole month, but I also have the opportunity to travel while I'm over here again. I had previously studied in England during 2005, but with so much to see and learn I don’t think it will be hard to find things to do while I’m here!

At the moment I have no schedule or itinerary--just a full backpack, laptop, camera, and an eagerness to converse with people. Classes start August 1st and go until the 28th, but I have three weeks before and three weeks after my studies to travel around. If anyone has any suggestions for great places to go see while I'm over here, don’t hesitate to share! I love getting travel recommendations that aren’t from a guidebook.

If you’re thinking about taking flight yourself, check out a brass blog post I wrote on how to save when traveling by plane. Also take a look at six ways to fund your study abroad, and Lessons In Language. Both give you tips on studying abroad in a foreign country.

If you already have made plans to study, travel, or work abroad, then you may find this site extra helpful too: travel.state.gov. The Bureau of Consular Affairs can help you find out how to get a U.S. passport and visa. In addition, you can search by country for safety and entry/exit requirements (important stuff!).

While I’m over here, my trusty Let's Go travel guide will help me wander through Europe. Let's Go travel guides are my top pick for a guidebook (especially for students). Each book is written by Harvard students! They're perfect for anyone on a budget. Lonely Planet also puts out pretty darn good travel guides too.

Guess it's that time to say my final farewell and wish you all a fantastically wonderful summer! I had an amazing experience at brass and learned more than I ever thought possible (internships are awesome!). Thanks to everyone at brass for giving me the opportunity to be a part of such a great magazine.

¡Adios agimos! (I still need a LOT of practice on my Spanish).
