For the last several months I've been eating oatmeal for breakfast. Seriously. I think it tastes delicious (with a few key ingredients) and it's super filling, so I never have the mid-morning munchies. Here's how I make it.

  • Boil 1.5 cups of water; I use an electric water boiler.
  • While waiting for water to boil, combine 1 cup of dry oats, a handful of raisins and one sliced banana in a bowl.
  • Drizzle 1 tablespoon of honey over dry ingredients.
  • Pour boiling water over the whole mixture. Let sit for 1 minute. Drain off any excess water.
  • Add 1/2 cup of milk.

Not only is oatmeal simple to make, but it's economical to boot.  Check out this price chart of oatmeal ingredients at my local market.

Based on these costs, I then ran some calculations and came up with this price chart for 1 bowl of oatmeal.

Eat up.
