As any Christmas holiday show will tell you, Christmas is about more than getting presents, it's about giving. There are thousands of charities across the country ready to accept your donation, whether it's money or something more tangible, to share with those less fortunate. Here are two national organizations that are still looking for donations this close to Christmas.

  •  Toys for Tots is a nationwide campaign that collects new, unwrapped toys from October through December to give to needy children in local communities. Visit toysfortots.org to find the nearest donation center.
  • The Make-A-Wish Foundation has been granting wishes to children with life-threatening medical conditions since 1980. Visit wish.org to learn about adopting a wish or donating money, frequent flier miles, or other helpful items to help make holiday wishes come true.

As always, Google is your friend when you're looking for local stuff. Search for Christmas charities in your town to find out who is still accepting Christmas donations. Check them out at charitynavigator.org to make sure they're legit before donating.

But wait, there's more! Deadlines for many Christmas charities have passed, but there is a need all year round. These organizations still need your help.

  • Operation Gratitude collects donations to send care packages to soldiers, sailors, airmen and marines deployed overseas. Packages include food, hygiene products, entertainment items and letters of appreciation. Visit opgratitude.com to donate or request a package for a friend or family member in the military.
  • Child's Play was started in 2003, and is my personal favorite charity. They organize and provide donations of video games to children in hospitals all over the world. Visit childsplaycharity.org to get involved.

Merry Christmas! And remember to be nice to those Salvation Army bell ringers.
