Online classified ad services like craigslist.org, oodle.com, and MySpace Classifieds accounted for 2.99% of all website visits in March. Craigslist alone saw an 86% increase in traffic over the last year.

My online searches mainly involve cute lolcatz who fail at various things while eating bacon, so I was surprised that people actually use the Internets for something useful.
Oftentimes people who need to move with short notice, are looking to score some extra cash, or are too lazy to have a garage sale, turn to these sites to get rid of their extra stuff. You can find some great deals and won't have to pay shipping charges because the focus is on buying and selling locally.
But when something becomes popular, of course someone has to ruin the party. With the increase in traffic has come an increase in scams. So when shopping on these sites, read their scam awareness sections. As the items are sold locally, make sure you see the product before paying for it. Because a $50 futon isn't a good deal unless it actually makes it into your house.
