According to the New York Times, there's no real "hit toy" flying off shelves this holiday season. It isn't good for toy retailers trying to rake in year-end profits, and it certainly can’t be good for kids hoping for a holiday season brightened by toys to rival previous hits like Legos, Tamagotchis, and the Game Boy Classic.

If thinking about Beanie Babies and Bratz dolls makes you wax nostalgic (and feel for children in 2011 having no such toy to long for), check out these infographics that highlight hit toys that boosted holiday sales in years past, from Lincoln Logs in 1916 and the Slinky in 1948 to Tickle Me Elmo in 1996. Which of these toys filled your stocking as a child?

I for one look back fondly on my Razor scooter and the hours of fun scooting around my driveway it provided.
