Friday was my last day at brass. So as you read this, I've already said my fond farewells to folks here. In the coming weeks I will sell, give away or Goodwill everything I can. With any luck, I'll feel like Batman when he launches out on his Batpod in The Dark Knight--roughed up, but faster, leaner and meaner than ever. Through work at brass, and a healthy income from my own photography business, I've built up a solid rainy-day fund (one of these should hold enough funds to cover several months of living expenses) that should ease my move up north to Portland. For health coverage, I'll be taken care of through COBRA Continuation Health Coverage. No, not THIS Cobra. I'm fortunate to have zero credit card debt and no outstanding student loans--I'm probably the most agile I'll ever be money-wise. So if there ever was a prime time to make a leap, it's now. Carpe Diem. Right now, I'd say my biggest challenge is remembering to live within my means. That means not overextending myself through unscrupulous moving splurges. In fact, with the whole standard-of-living bubble looming, living within one's means should be on all our minds. For additional solid info on successfully leaving a job, look for our forthcoming Starting Line feature in November's issue of brass. Well, the time has come to be on the move. Good thing (judging from the picture above) it's obvious I know how to handle myself in the world. Whee! --Peter
