Renting
It's Good To Be Covered
I finally signed up for renter's insurance. It's long overdue. I've been renting for years without the basic protection. But lately whenever I left the house I started having horrific daydreams of flames burning all of my belongings (the pic is an apartment building that went up not far from brass HQ).
Rent-Free, Mortgage-Free DIY Housing
Paying for housing can be a major burden. If you're not living with mom and dad anymore, there are really only two options: buy or rent. But that's easier said than done. In 2010, the average cost of U.S. homes was $272,900; rent in New York, the highest rental market of all 50 states, averaged $2,980 per month.
I certainly don't have that kind of scratch on hand. Do you?
Finding The Perfect Apartment
Finding the perfect apartment can be a headache, to say the least--even if it's located above Seinfeld's coffee shop (see right). Amid all the excitement, important factors that should be considered before renting often get overlooked. As a reformed renter of the cheapest location I could find, I'm here to present a renters checklist of things to look out for when on the hunt for the next, or first, apartment.
Moving Up: Weighing whether to rent or buy
Buying a house is a life-changing experience. It requires an immense investment of time and money, and is a weighty commitment. If you're looking for fewer strings attached and less financial responsibility, try renting.
The Apartment Hunt: Searching for your perfect place
Whether you're moving out of your parents' house or you just need a change of scenery, finding the right apartment is never easy.
Get Real: Real Estate, Real Investment
Most of us imagine owning our own home, but just like a game of real life Monopoly, it doesn't have to end there.
Buy Instead of Rent and Pay Yourself--Not a landlord
Renting can be easier and requires less risk, but for those willing to look into buying their own house, the rewards can be significant.
Moving Up or Just Moving Out?
Whether you're looking for an apartment or a house, you should think about some very important things before moving into your new residence.
